meet the artist
hi! i'm debi!
in kindergarten when asked what i wanted to be when i grew up, i practically shouted "artist!!!"
some things never change.
i've been collecting antiques for as long as i can remember and they are a constant inspiration for my art. i'm particularly fond of english antiques because they are so darn charming. blue and white transferware? oh yes! naively painted staffordshire figurines? uh huh! hand painted lustreware jugs? oh my mercy, yes! but because they can sometimes be a bit stuffy, i use bright colors and patterns to freshen them up. give me ALL the colors.
i live and work in a 1930s english tudor revival cottage in midtown memphis, tennessee with my darling husband and our 4 cats.
my art
i digitally illustrate every scarf component by hand before i collage them into a scarf design using adobe illustrator. every line, scribble and dot is wonderfully weird and one of a kind. no ai here folks!
the influencers
i've always been influenced by tasha tudor's art and life and mary englebreit's colorful illustrations. i still have a copy of her print i found in college of a woman sitting at her desk, hard at work on an illustration, surrounded by art supplies and a sleeping cat. it reads "it is art that makes life, makes interest, makes importance, and i know no substitute for the force and beauty of its process." (henry james) i would sit in my dorm room dreaming of my future and imagining that it was just like that illustration. i'd be a working artist in a cottage full of antiques and cats. i'm constantly and pleasantly surprised that after more than 50 years i've found my way here.
